Lynton has a number of local shops, primary schooling, churches, restaurants, medical centre and cinema. The cliff railway links it with the pretty village of Lynmouth. The area is situated within the national park of Exmoor with its scenic moorland and coastal walks, one of the most spectacular being towards the Valley Of the Rocks. It is equidistant from Minehead and Barnstaple, each being 19 miles away. A greater range of shops and services are found in the regional centre of Barnstaple and here there are high street shops, local government offices, cinema, theatre and branch line railway station. The North Devon area has a number of sporting activities, which include golf, surfing, horse riding, sea and river fishing.
